So, people waited. They still voted. I worked the election of 2008 as a poll worker and there were long lines, yes. But the reason was not discrimination. It was because suddenly lots of people decided to vote and the preparations did not anticipate such a large turnout and so there were not enough voting machines, poll workers, or forms to accommodate the rush.

I urge folks NOT to approve this amendment as it is unnecessary and opens the door to mischief as intimated in the comments by Mr. Raoul. Illinois already has problems re who votes and those need correction first.BilHelhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08630643467899468204noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-23816706.post-5047594710321328652014-10-23T11:10:23.980-05:002014-10-23T11:10:23.980-05:00It should our choice in the matter if our children...It should our choice in the matter if our children stay in school or not. Your reporting is often more in depth or at least hits the salient issues that people would be interested in- especially education and retirement issues. I come to the site because I keep it as link in my news folder. I occasionally post you stories to Facebook.
My concern on your merger would be if it ends up affecting your unbiased writing. Long ago I use to trust public radio a television, but no longer. I feel corporate influence and agenda has affected how NPR and PBS are "allowed" to report information. Hopefully that won't happen to you. The state's unfunded liability has increased to approximately $100 billion. Nearly 50 percent of that figure is a consequence of continual legislative negligence, dishonesty and ineptitude.

For decades, Illinois policymakers have consistently failed to make the annual required contributions to the state's pension systems, primarily because they could pay for services and their "pet projects" without raising taxes. In 1995, policymakers created a flawed re-funding schedule, and they have refused to correctly amortize the pension systems' unfunded liabilities since then. Instead they have favored corporate interests rather than the interests of their citizenry and; thus, they have seriously sabotaged the public employees' retirement plans and the State of Illinois' future economic solvency through mismanagement and fiscal irresponsibility. Past state policymakers left us with a fiscal disaster.
gbrownhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13435049339082622611noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-23816706.post-34076613011215974832014-07-04T09:55:57.138-05:002014-07-04T09:55:57.138-05:00A clear conflict of interest when the state court ...A clear conflict of interest when the state court knows that sooner or later it will affect them too. Quinn sold the tax as temporary to pay the back log of outstanding bills and debt. Not one penny has been spent on the back log. Instead Quinn squandered the money with every special interest group and political crony he could find. $98 Million was given to UNO to build charter schools. Since when are tax dollars used to purchase real estate for private parties? At $150 per square foot for construction costs, UNO could have build schools the size of 6 Super Walmarts. So how many school buildings and how many square feet did $98 Million buy this 3rd party? He will continue to squander the tax money and squander our economic future. His only value is to Rahm and Madigan, they run the state while this fool burns money. The Republican candidate got rich off of state contracts and cronyism.
