I watched for an Obama factor and realize now it wasn't as strong as originally thought.Illinois Issues Statehouse bureauhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17857188978913308313noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-23816706.post-64846577776021672822008-11-06T08:49:00.000-06:002008-11-06T08:49:00.000-06:00Hi Bethany,I left a similar comment on your cross-...Hi Bethany,

I left a similar comment on your cross-post over at Illinoize...

Regarding the IL-66 race: It doesn't seem to me that Obama had much, if any, coat-tails in northwest Cook. If you look at the neighboring IL-65 and IL-53 races, both incumbent Republicans (Mulligan and Mathias, respectively) easily defeated their Democratic challengers.

Further, two of the Congressional districts which overlap the 66th (10th and 6th) also saw their GOP incumbents easily re-elected.

Either Obama had almost no coat-tails in the area or Blagojevich and Stroger neutralized them.

I think Mark's win had more to do with him as a candidate and his strong campaign. He knocked on several thousand doors over the past year+ and met over 10,000 people.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
